How Does Botox Work?
Botox® is specially formulated with a purified protein, which relaxes the muscles when injected in the targeted area, ultimately reducing the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles. It is a minimally invasive procedure, with the Botox being injected via a tiny needle. Prior to the treatment, a topical anesthesia can be used if necessary to numb the treatment area. There’s very little downtime with Botox treatment, since you can return to your normal daily activities immediately after the procedure. The results from Botox typically last anywhere from 3-5 months on average.
Is Botox Safe?
Botox is approved by the FDA, and is a safe and effective procedure. It is possible for Botox to be injected improperly, which can cause undesirable results like to to the eyelid,. For that reason, we highly recommend that you go to a dermatologist, like Dr. Allen, to reduce the risk of poor results.
Is Botox Painful?
Another common question is if Botox treatment is painful. Since the treatment is an injection, it can rarely cause redness, or bruising around the targeted site. Patients can use ice packs to help reduce bruising in the rare event that occurs.
Are There Side Effects To Botox?
Numbness or a “frozen face” is a common misconception as a side effect of Botox treatment. This only occurs if too much Botox is injected or if Botox is injected in the improper areas. This is less likely happen when you choose an experienced doctor.
Some side effects that are possible include drooping of the eyelid, nausea, headache and respiratory infection, but only occur in about 1% of patients. They are considered temporary and usually resolve themselves within a few weeks.
