Skin Care Tips

.

While some people may be blessed with naturally flawless skin, most of us have to continually work at it to keep it looking and feeling healthy. While a visit to your local dermatologist will help discover what will be best for your skin, here are a few general skin care tips that can help you keep your skin looking vibrant, and you feeling confident.

Beware Of Too Much Sun

More than anything, remember to avoid sun overexposure, since those harmful UV rays can cause some serious damage to your skin. We’re not saying to not go out in the sun at all, but just make sure that you take precautions to protect your skin. Our recommendation would be to use wide-brimmed hats, use sun protective clothing, and daily apply a high-SPF sunscreens (at least 30 SPF) in order to properly protect yourself. I like sunscreens that are zinc oxide (micronized) based for optimum protection.

Your Skin Needs Vitamins Too

Keep in mind that your skin is an organ, and as such, it needs proper nutrition in order to remain healthy. Vitamins and anti-oxidants are essential to skin health, which you can get through various foods, drinks, or supplements if necessary. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water to properly hydrate your skin.

Smoking Pollutes Your Skin

The simple point here is Don’t smoke. Smoking decreases blood circulation, and introduces a variety of poisons, oxidants and chemicals that harm your skin, as well as your overall health. If you are a smoker, it’s in your best interest to do all your can to kick the habit. Your body will thank you for it.

Happy & Healthy You Means Healthy Skin

Like your other body parts, your skin reacts to your psychological and emotional well-being as much as your physical well-being. That means if you’re tired or stressed, your skin is going to show it. Make sure that you get a good night's sleep every night if possible, and try to control or even reduce your stress levels if you can.

Practice Proper Hygiene

Though it may sound obvious, always remember to keep your skin clean. This means not only washing your face with a gentle cleanser regularly, but little things you may not think about during the day. For example, your hands are one of the oiliest parts of your body – touching your face repeatedly spreads not only those oils, but also the dirt that accumulates on your hands as well.

Don’t Over Exfoliate & Moisturize

Avoid excessive exfoliation and moisturizing. While moderate exfoliating can clear your skin of old, dead cells, over-exfoliation can acidify and irritate your skin. Likewise, rationed applications of moisturizer are good for skin, but over-moisturizing can clog pores and make your skin oily.

Don’t Forget About Your Skin

When at all possible, try to keep your skin care regimen consistent. Cosmetic products, lotions and cleansers – even all-natural ones – can have dozens of ingredients, any of which could be potential allergens. Regularly and frequently changing these products increases your chances of irritation, inflaming or shocking your skin.
