What Is Intense Pulse Light Therapy?

An Intense Pulse Light (IPL) device uses wavelengths of light to treat damaged areas of the skin such as:

  • Age Spots
  • Rosacea
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Broken Blood Vessels
  • Sun Damage

How Does The Treatment Work?

You may experience a slight to moderate tingling sensation during the treatment.  Usually, topical anesthetic cream is not needed.  However, It can be applied if desired.

You will be given dark glasses before the start of the procedure to protect your eyes from the light. The treatment area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied to your skin to reduce the sensation of heat given off by the device.

Once you are comfortable and relaxed, the device will gently be placed on your skin and give off light pulses around the treated area. The whole procedure should take around 20-30 minutes, but may vary depending on which area is being treated.

How Often Do I Need IPL Therapy?

We recommend to schedule a series of 3-4 sessions every 3-4 weeks with Allen Dermatology until you achieve the desired results.

You may experience some redness and slight bruising after the IPL procedure, but they should go away in a few days. Brown spots will appear darker before peeling off shortly after. If needed, makeup may be applied quickly after the IPL therapy.
